The Publisher of the CHICAGO WEEK- LY NEWS has great pleasure in announc- ing the conclusion of an arrangement by which all the edi- tions of the Amer- ican Standard Li- brary are hereafter to be offered exclu- sively in combina- tion with The CHI- CAGO WEEKLY NEWS. The books of the American Standard Library appear monthly, and com- prise choice selec- tions from the best current and stand- ard literature. They are fine specimens of the bookmaker's art, being well print- ed on good paper and neatly bound in flexible paper covers. In size they come within the decription "handy volumes," being about 7½ by 6¼ inches, and in thick- ness averaging 200 pages each. The next three books to be issued are: "She," by H. Rider Haggard, author of "King Solomon's Mines," "Allan Quartermain," "Jess," etc. Mr. Haggard is probably the most celebrated and most widely read of recent writers. His African stories are unequaled in their way, and for a tale of surprising and mysterious adventure "She" is unsurpassed by any recent literary production. "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," by Robert Louis Stevenson, author of "The Dynamiter," Kidnaped," etc. In the opinion of not a few Mr. Stevenson quite holds his own with Mr. Haggard in the race for popular approval as a writer of light fiction. Certainly his "Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" is a strange and most surprising story, and, better still, a story which urges with irresistible force its moral of self- control. No more absorbing story has appeared for many a day. "All in the Wild March Morning," by Mrs. E. Q. Kirk, author of "Fairy Gold," "Madge; or, Nobody's Darling," etc. This is a typical English love story, full of the atmosphere of happy, domestic English life, with quite enough of plot and incident to hold the reader's interest to the end. After this there is the promise of books which, in addi- tion to their own direct merit, shall be especially valuable as giving an acquaintance with foreign lands and affairs. In this category will be representative literature of Germany, France, Scandinavia, and possibly Italy and Spain. It is the aim of the proprietors of the American Standard Library to issue only books of general popular interest, at the same time having in constant mind the selection of works which shall combine in- struction and improvement with pleasurable interest and recrea- FOR RATES OF POSTAGE SEE OTHER SIDE.
